Arielle Zionts

Hello!

I am the business and economic development reporter at South Dakota Public Broadcasting where I tell stories related to the economy and how it impact everyday South Dakotans.

I've reported on the gig-worker economy at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally,
campaign finance blunders, and small businesses finding success through expanding social media and e-commerce. I've also covered community-based housing solutions and concerns that a proposed bill will enrich developers while leaving the working class behind.

I've reported for NPR and National Native News, and have had stories run across the country through the Associated Press.

I'm available for freelance reporting (audio or print), producing, fact-checking, tape syncs, vox pops and more. I'm based in Rapid City but can travel across South Dakota and into Eastern Wyoming, NW Nebraska, SE Montana and SW North Dakota.

Before joining SDPB I worked as the criminal justice reporter at the Rapid City Journal where I won the 2020 Outstanding Young Journalist Award from the South Dakota Better Newspaper Contest.

Before that I was a general assignment reporter at the Nogales International where I could walk to Mexico from my home in Nogales, Arizona. I won 14 state and national journalism awards ... and first place in the women's 114-mile Nogales Bicycle Classic road race!

In my free time you can find me playing with my cat Sully, listening to podcasts, and riding my bikes on the singletrack and gravel roads of the Black Hills. I'm also a mentor at Big Brothers Big Sisters.
